The Publio Cordón Memorial Hospital will host an information session on advances in the treatment of lymphoedema and lipoedema

The event, organised by AMAL and the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Publio Cordón Memorial Hospital, will include specialist talks, a practical session on lymphography and an introduction to the team of specialists who will be treating these conditions at the hospital.

On 20 June, the Publio Cordón Memorial Hospital will host the information day ‘Advances in the treatment of lymphoedema and lipoedema’, an event aimed at patients, their families and anyone interested in learning more about the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.

The event is organised by AMAL – the Madrid Association for People Affected by Lymphoedema and Lipoedema – and the Publio Cordón Memorial Hospital.

The event will feature Dr Jaume Masià, head of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department at the Publio Cordón Memorial Hospital and a specialist in the management of lymphoedema and lipoedema. During the event, the team of specialists involved in the care, assessment and follow-up of patients with these conditions at the hospital will also be introduced.

Lymphoedema and lipoedema are chronic conditions that can significantly affect quality of life. Although they are distinct conditions, both require a precise clinical assessment, specialised diagnosis and individualised treatment. In recent years, advances in lymphatic medicine, microsurgery, body contouring surgery, functional imaging and conservative therapies have led to a better understanding of these conditions and enabled the provision of increasingly personalised strategies.

Against this backdrop, the conference aims to provide rigorous, up-to-date and useful information on the available options, ranging from diagnosis and functional assessment to the conservative and surgical treatments that may be indicated for selected patients.

One of the highlights of the event will be the practical session on diagnostic assessment using lymphography, a technique that allows the functioning of the lymphatic system to be visualised and the circulation of lymph to be observed. This tool can provide relevant information for assessing lymphatic drainage, identifying possible abnormalities and better guiding treatment planning in each individual case.

The event will include specialist talks, a practical session on diagnostic assessment, an introduction to the team of specialists, and a forum for discussion and questions, encouraging dialogue between patients, patient organisations and healthcare professionals. The event will be supported by Medi.
