The Interventional Radiology department at Publio Cordón Memorial Hospital carries out diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using image-guided percutaneous and endovascular techniques.
These techniques enable the treatment of vascular structures and deep-seated organs with a high degree of precision, in many cases avoiding the need for open surgery. Each procedure is indicated following a careful assessment of its clinical benefit, patient safety and expected functional recovery.
Coordination with the relevant medical and surgical specialities enables each intervention to be integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan, ensuring clinical consistency throughout the entire care process.
Interventional Radiology is involved in the treatment of vascular, oncological, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions where it is possible to offer an effective therapeutic alternative using percutaneous or endovascular techniques.
Among the most common clinical situations are active haemorrhages, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, vascular stenoses, portal hypertension, hypervascular tumours and deep lesions that are difficult to access.
The indication for each procedure is determined following an individualised assessment, comparing the various therapeutic options and agreeing on the strategy with the responsible clinical team.
The procedure begins with a specialist consultation and a detailed review of previous imaging studies. Where necessary, diagnostic angiographic studies, CT angiography or MRI angiography are performed to accurately characterise the vascular anatomy or the target lesion.
Each procedure is planned according to anatomical complexity, clinical status and comorbidities. Procedures are carried out in rooms equipped with advanced technology, including digital angiography systems that allow for continuous radiological monitoring throughout the procedure.
Following the procedure, a programme of clinical and radiological follow-up is established in coordination with the specialist department responsible for the underlying condition.

The speciality is organised into two complementary areas, enabling the treatment of both vascular disorders of the central nervous system and vascular and oncological interventions in various organs.
This area focuses on the treatment of cerebral and spinal vascular diseases using high-precision endovascular techniques.
Conditions treated include cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural fistulas, chronic subdural haematoma suitable for embolisation, and intracranial venous stenosis, amongst other vascular disorders.
Treatment planning is carried out following a detailed analysis of the vascular anatomy and neurological risk, in coordination with the Neurology, Neurosurgery and Intensive Care departments when the complexity of the case so requires.
This department carries out diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for arterial and venous conditions, interventional oncology and image-guided musculoskeletal treatment.
Among the most common techniques are angioplasty with stent placement, arterial and venous embolisation, TIPS for portal hypertension, endovascular haemorrhage control, and percutaneous treatments for tumours or deep lesions.
The indication for each procedure is determined following an individualised assessment of the risk-benefit balance, integrating the intervention into the overall treatment strategy defined in collaboration with the relevant specialities.
The department comprises interventional radiologists who specialise specifically in highly technically complex vascular, neurological and oncological procedures.
Each case is assessed individually and, where the clinical situation requires it, is reviewed in multidisciplinary committees alongside other specialities. From the very first consultation, the indication for the procedure, the proposed technique, the possible risks and the available treatment options are clearly explained.
Following the procedure, a structured clinical follow-up programme is established, enabling us to confirm the effectiveness of the treatment and adjust the treatment plan in line with the patient’s progress.
The combination of clinical experience, rigorous planning and advanced imaging technology enables us to offer precise and safe procedures within a coordinated care model.
A specialist assessment makes it possible to confirm the indication for the procedure, determine the most appropriate technical strategy and draw up an individualised treatment plan in consultation with the relevant specialist departments.
Choose whichever of these three options is easiest for you.
